Grant Museum of Zoology

The Grant Museum of Zoology is considered as a natural history museum. And it is a part of the University College London. It was founded in 1828 by Robert Edmond Grant who was the first professor of Zoology and Comparative Anatomy in England. The museum was introduced as a teaching collection of zoological specimens and material for dissection.

The museum was formerly located in UCL’s Darwin Building, then it was moved to the Rockeffeller Building.

The museum includes over 67 000 zoological specimens which cover whole animal Kingdom. Many specimens are very rare to find. The museum has found their collection from former universities like Imperial College London and Queen Mary University of London. Apart from that the collection riches with the objects from London zoo and various London hospital anatomy collections.

It is the only one museum of its kind of museums. The museum comprises animal skeletons, specimens preserved in fluid. The collection highlights the spectacular glass models that Blaschka family used in the late 1800s. And also the specimens used by Thomas Huxley.

The museum includes several species which have been disappeared like Tasmanian tiger, the Quagga and the Dodo. And also includes a large insect collection from the late 1800s.
