Business Visitor Visa

The United Kingdom has a thriving business culture thus it recognises that overseas business people may want to visit the UK for a short time period for matters relating their business. If an individual wishes to visit the United Kingdom for business purposes, example for attending interviews or conferences, conducting site visits, arranging deals or for negotiating the terms of a contract or delivering international goods or carrying out market research, he will have to apply for a Business Visitor Visa. This category of visa also applies to entertainers or people engaging in short term sports.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

An applicant must meet the following basic requirements to obtain a Business visitor visa:

• He must intend to visit the UK for a maximum period of 6 months and must leave the UK at the end of this period.
• He must demonstrate that he intends to visit the UK for a genuine business activity (from the long list of 'permissible activities' outlined by the UK Border Agency)
• His salary must come from overseas and he cannot receive any pay from the UK business he visits.
• He must be able to prove that he has enough funds to support, maintain and accommodate himself and his dependants (if any)  without working in the UK or resorting to the UK public funds.
• He must not visit the UK with an intention to study or taking up any paid or unpaid employment in the UK.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

To apply for a business visitor visa an applicant must make sure that he has all the following documents readily available at the time of application:

• A current passport or a valid travel identification.
• A passport sized coloured photograph.
• Invitation letter from the UK company or establishment or business.
• Confirmation and details regarding the purpose of his visit.
• If employed he needs a letter from his employer approving his leave for a specified period. This letter should include all the details about his employment and when he is expected to resume work.
• If self employed: evidence of his business activities, accounts and his financial credibility.
• Bank statement of the last 3 to 6 months.
• Evidence of his travel plans: tickets and hotel bookings and itinerary.
• Evidence of additional savings.

BUSINESS VISITOR VISA ENTITLEMENTS

On getting this visa one can stay in the UK for a maximum period 6 months as a business visitor and may also be allowed multiple entries during the 6 months period.

DOs and DON'Ts

A Business visitor can:

• Do all the permissible activities related to his job as long as he is paid by an overseas company.
• Get his dependants to stay with him.
A Business visitor can't:
• Take any other paid or unpaid job
• Get public funds.
• Marry or register a civil partnership, or give notice of marriage or civil partnership.
• get private medical treatment.
